I was at a wedding reception the other weekend in a cool
& serene venue. We were on item 12 on the agenda, the time for the nuptial
dance. The live Dj was busy scratching the turn table & dishing out lives
mixes of naija wedding tracks. As the couple displayed their dance steps, he
suddenly cued in “Aye” by Davido and immediately the atmosphere in the hall
became electrified. I noticed that there was a roar of approval as the song
came on. Guests spontaneously stood up & rushed out to join the couple on
the dance floor. In a short while the floor was crowded by the young & not
so young guests digging it out. Those who had their hands and mouth engaged by the
wedding rice were nodding their heads & tapping their feet on the ground. I
sat at my end of the round table resisting the urge to join the dance.
I knew that “Aye” was
a hit but I kept wondering what was the unique thing about the song that made
people get up to their feet to dance as soon as it came on. When I got back
home later that evening i played the song several times in a bid to let the
message behind the song sink in. Apart from the gyrating highlife beat which I think
is the highlight of the song, all what I could get out of the song was Davido’s auto tuned voice crooning about a girl he
appears to be in love with.
Oh by the way this is not a track review in the strict sense
of it. This is just my inquisitive mind asking few questions.
The opening line says.…
“She no want designer
she no want ferrari
She say na my love o”
she no want ferrari
She say na my love o”
This is the most popular line of
the song. Davido are you really telling us the truth? Are you saying that she
doesn’t want Burberry bags? Dolce & Gabbana dresses, Christian dior
perfumes, Saint Laurent shoes, assorted jewelries? Is she for real? This means
that she would even turn down an invitation for shopping in Harrods store
London. Could it be that this lady
prefers shopping at the bend down select boutique at Urua Itam?
“She no want Ferrari”
It is understandable if she doesn’t
want a Ferrari. Ferraris are expensive sports cars manufactured by the Italian
company Ferrari S.p.A. You see it is not
something that the average Aliyu, Ade or Obi on the street can afford. The cars are generally seen as a symbol of
speed, luxury and wealth. However Mr
Davido if you or any man’s pocket is deep and wide enough to purchase a ferrari
with ease and your girlfriend/fiancée/wife declines your offer, you need to
check if she is alright!....as in is she functioning normally? Is she from the
remote village of Ikot Nda edem?
What then does she want? You say
your love is all what she wants. This is interesting because we are living in a
materialistic world age where ladies compete with each other in all aspects of
fashion and carriage. Every lady wants to look hawt and trendy. So she prefers
jumping from one keke tricycle to another, from one bus to another and from one
okada to the other with you on our bumpy roads all because of love. Don’t let her deceive you. The truth is she
has not entered a ferrari before. Kindly arrange for her to have a ride in one.
I assure you that when she gets in and feels the comfort of the plush and
luxurious interior of the vehicle, when she experiences the smooth roller
coaster ride, she wouldn’t want to leave the car. You will have to drag her out
yourself! You can ask Rick ross .
If you can afford to buy all
these luxurious items for her and she declines them & you are 100% certain
that she is perfectly normal you have to hold her tight. Make sure that nobody
snatches her away from you because ladies like her are rare, she will make a
good wife!
“They say love is blind
But i dey see am for your eyes o o….o eh eh
For your eyes o”
But i dey see am for your eyes o o….o eh eh
For your eyes o”
Oh you can see love in her eyes too? Tell me what is
the colour of the love in her eyes? Is it red, blue, green or white? I hope she
is not faking the love. If you are not sure, you’d better begged her like Phil
Collins to show you her true colours before you sign the dotted lines.
“You belong to me
And i belong to her o
Cause nobody can love you like i do
Nobody can touch you like i do!"
And i belong to her o
Cause nobody can love you like i do
Nobody can touch you like i do!"
Take it easy bro, I know you have fallen head over
heels in love with her. The truth is God loves her more than you will ever do!
That is the reason he sent Jesus his son to die for her sins. Away from the
divine, remember that there are over 3.4 billion men in this world. Look at you
declaring that nobody else can love her like you do. Tell me, what if you
depart this world untimely….God forbid!....Do you honestly think that this
gorgeous young lady will remain single for long?....You will be forgotten bro. Someone else will definitely be loving
and “touching” her even better than you did. It’s a sad fact, isn’t it?
Are you really sure that she belongs to you the same
way you belong to her? Do you know if she is sharing you with someone else?
Sorry bro, please don’t be annoyed! I am not trying to
arouse suspicions in your mind. It is good to know that you trust her and she
trusts you. I’ll be expecting your wedding invitation card soon.
Ladies how many of you can love unconditionally as the
girl in this song without expecting and demanding for material gifts from him.
If you can’t, I think it is in your best interest to desist from listening to, dancing
to or even playing Aye on your phone because that amounts to hypocrisy. I hope you
know that hypocrites will not make heaven.
Dj Magic fingers is in the building!! Dj please play Aye for us! All the ladies who love
unconditionally please step out & let us scatter the dance floor!
………….why is the floor so scanty?
I thought as much.......
Dj skip that track! Let’s have Chop my money by
Psquare. We all wanna have a good time here!.......
*Dance floor gets crowded*
